Snow Policy

What to do in the case of:

Snow/school closure overnight

The decision about school closure will be made before 7am on the morning concerned.

Please do not phone the school. In the event of school closure this will be announced on the school website and Radio Sheffield.  We will also alert parents and members of staff to any decision via text and e-mail. More detailed information and any updates through the day will be on the website.

Even if the school is open, if you as a parent decide that the local conditions make it unwise/unsafe for your child to travel to school you should keep them at home and complete an absence note.

The school rarely closes, but sometimes it is closed to students because the bus company is not able to operate its service.

On such occasions when the school is ‘closed to students’ but ‘open to staff’ it will now be possible for students to attend school, where they will be supervised for private study and some directed study.

It is important that, should you wish to take advantage of this facility, you must take full responsibility for making appropriate arrangements for getting your child to school and from school at the end of the day. This may include giving your child permission to make their own way to/from the school.

The school will not remain open to students beyond the end of the normal taught day in these circumstances and we will not be able to make arrangements for supervising students or for getting them home after 3.35.

In the event that the school has to close to students on a day when public examinations are taking place, the school will make every effort to enable the exams to go ahead. Information regarding exams will be posted on the website in this event.

Snow/school closure during the day

Please let us assure you that in the event of bad weather etc, we are as concerned as you that your child has a safe journey home.

We monitor the weather conditions and are in constant contact with the Bus Company.

Our measures are seriously hindered if students do not follow our instructions. Students must not absent themselves from school without permission.

Whilst we understand the anxiety parents experience, it is not possible to deliver hundreds of individual messages.
