Students are graded for effort and attainment in History each half term in line with whole school assessment policy.  
At Key Stage 4 GCSE students work on three specific areas;

•    International relations between 1919 and 1945 with a special emphasis on Germany between 1919 – 1945.
•    A study of British History between 1890 and 1918.
•    Finally there is an in depth study of the U.S.A. in the 1920s and 1930s looking at the Depression and the work of F.D.Roosevelt.

The first two areas are assessed through end of year examinations. The work on America forms the basis of the student’s Controlled Assessment (coursework) which is undertaken during the Spring Term. The Controlled Assessment student progress is assessed against the exam board marking criteria with students self-assessing their work against the criteria and staff giving the appropriate level of permitted guidance.
Students have 5 hours of History a week at Key Stage 4 and will be constantly assessed though classwork and homework which will result in the award of GCSE equivalent grades.  All students will sit a full ‘mock exam’ before the end of the course.
