Assessment in Physical Education Students are graded for effort and attainment in Physical Education each half term in line with whole school assessment policy.
In Key Stage 3 students participate in blocks of activity which include athletics, badminton, basketball, cricket, dance, football, gymnastics, netball, rounders, rugby, tennis, trampolining, lacrosse and orienteering. Within their carousel of activities in Year 7 and 8 they will also complete a drama module.
Students will also experience a block of activity based around problem solving skills and team building activities. This is intended to explore their communication skills within a group and foster cooperation.
Using both the fitness suite and outdoor facilities students will also take part in fitness sessions aimed at highlighting the importance of a healthy lifestyle.
These activities are covered in order to assess the following areas which underpin Physical Education: • Developing physical competence and performance • Developing healthy lifestyles and evaluating and creating solutions
Assessment is continuous throughout the block and may be through direct observation, record keeping, peer assessment or trial.
These judgments are then compared against the exemplification of standards as set out in the National Curriculum.
Levels 3-8 are used with the best fit level descriptor being allocated. Sub levels in line with school policy show progression within a level.
